International Music Council

Topic: The Disappearance of Frank Ocean

Type: Novice, Single Delegate

As streaming giants, AI algorithms, and digital monopolies reshape the music industry, questions of cultural sovereignty, artistic autonomy, and identity have taken center stage. When the globally celebrated artist Frank Ocean mysteriously disappears, his absence sparks a movement that challenges how art is owned, censored, and remembered in the digital age. Delegates in this UNESCO specialized body and artist will confront the growing tension between globalized platforms and local expression, while navigating the rise of underground art networks, ethical dilemmas in AI-generated music, and the fading boundaries between art, politics, and resistance. This committee invites you to grapple with the future of culture itself and to ask what happens when a voice becomes a revolution.

Meet Your Dias

  • Esteemed Delegates,

My name is Cheyenne Jemison! I’m a Political Science major with a minor in History, and I’m from Inglewood, California. A fun fact about me is that I’m the Director General for our collegiate Model UN conference, UCBMUN! This committee topic is something I came up with on the spot, inspired by my deep interest in how artists especially musicians use their platforms to make political and cultural statements. I’ve always been fascinated by the intersection of music, society, and international institutions like the UN, so I figured… why not bring it all together? I never got the chance to do MUN in high school, so I’m incredibly excited to now be competing and staffing at the collegiate level. So, what better way to do that than by centering the whole committee around my favorite artist? Just trying to make sure no one gets Lost in the conversation.

    Yours Truly,
    Cheyenne Jemison, Chair

  • Hello delegates! My name is Sophia Martinez, your Chair for the Frank Ocean Board of Directors! I am currently a junior at the University of California, Berkeley, studying English and minoring in Public Policy. Before joining this club, I had never been exposed to Model UN in the slightest, but since joining the club in Spring 2024, Model UN has secured a spot deep in my heart. Previously, I served as the Chief of Staff External for BearMUN, and I had a gratifying experience. With this, I am incredibly excited to chair a committee this year! As a fan of Frank Ocean for many years, I am beyond excited to bring some of my interests into a club and community I have grown to love so dearly. Within this committee, I hope those of you who are already fans of Frank Ocean grow that love through this committee, and I hope that those of you unfamiliar with this artist learn more about him and become fans after BearMUN! Overall, this committee has been incredibly fun to research and understand, and I hope you all find it to be as enjoyable as I have!

I look forward to seeing what you all come up with in this committee and am excited about the creativity and liveliness you will bring!

    Best,
    Sophia Martinez, Chair

  • Dear Delegates,

My name is Hannah Fielder (she/her) I am extremely excited to welcome you all lovely delegates to BearMun! I will be one of your Chairs for the Frank Ocean Board of Directors: Sonic Color Liberation and cannot wait to see what amazing ideas and solutions you come up with to make sure Frank Ocean is back and better than ever! I am currently a sophomore at UC Berkeley where I am majoring in English and minoring in Politics, Philosophy, and Law. I joined UCBMUN my freshman year in order to expand my interests in international relations, policy, and debate. Since then, I have found a great joy in competing, but most importantly staffing conferences like BearMUN!!! Outside of UCBMUN and UC Berkeley, I enjoy spending my free time reading, listening to my vinyl collection, or reconnecting myself with nature. I really hope we can get Frank Ocean back on his grind, and none of that can happen without your amazing ideas, opinions, and conversation. Best luck to you all, and don’t get “lost in the heat of it all.”

    Hannah Fielder, Chair
