Press Corps

Advanced, Single Delegate

In an era where AI can write headlines, mimic writing styles, and sometimes even outperform seasoned journalists, the integrity of the journalistic field is under threat. The Press Corps committee convenes in response to a media industry increasingly tempted to choose algorithms over human voices. As news consumers shift toward short-form content on platforms like TikTok, delegates in this committee will work to reclaim the value of human storytelling by producing content across a variety of mediums. Through written pieces, video segments, live reporting, and more, you won’t just be covering the stories unfolding this weekend — you’ll be reclaiming the newsroom.

Meet Your Dias

  • Director: Romi Vieira Lisboa

    Dear Delegates,

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the Press Corps committee at BearMUN! My name is Romi Vieira Lisboa, and I will serve as your director (and essentially editor-in-chief) for this committee!

I’m a third-year at UC Berkeley studying English, Creative Writing, and Public Policy. I joined UCBMUN my freshman year to explore new activities at Cal and fell in love with staffing and competing in Press Corps ever since. Outside of MUN, I am also a part of the Daily Californian (UC Berkeley’s student newspaper) where I write commentaries and features for the culture section and serve as the Head of Archives. I love writing commentaries about all things entertainment and theater-related!

The Press Corps committee encourages a lot of innovative and creative work from its delegates. As your director, I’m looking forward not only to reading your brilliant pieces but also to seeing how you experiment with different forms of journalism to chronicle the stories that unfold this weekend. In an era where technology is constantly evolving and the most popular forms of media shift, you, as journalists, must be prepared to not only tell important stories but to ensure you are reaching your target audience through the medium that has the greatest impact on them.

If there are any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact me. I’m so excited to meet you all this fall and witness the amazing pieces you produce during the weekend!

    Best,
    Romi Vieira Lisboa, Director

  • Dear Delegates,

Welcome to BearMUN and the Press Corps committee! My name is Cate Menotti (she/her), and I’m so excited to be one of the chairs for this committee. As a junior at UC Berkeley, I am studying Environmental Economics and Policy. Like my amazing chairs, I joined UCBMUN my freshman year to join a community of passionate students and competitors where I have thoroughly enjoyed competing around the country and staffing conferences. Besides UCBMUN and UCB, I love spending my free time hiking and hanging with friends on the Glade, exploring various cafes and cozy spots to read in around Berkeley, and forcing UCBMUN members to play pickleball (they love it I swear).
In this committee, you’ll be stepping into a world of journalism and creativity where you’ll navigate major issues facing writers in our ever-changing modern world. As one of your chairs, I hope to see you let your individuality and innovation - even given the characters and parameters set by this background guide - shine through in your writing and creations.
Even though MUN often involves serious issues, the Press Corps committee is all about embracing the fun and chaos of Model UN. We have some surprises in store, but I can’t wait to see what imaginative twists and turns you all come up with!

    Best,
    Cate Menotti, Chair

  • Greetings Delegates,

I am delighted to be one of your chairs for the Bear MUN Press Corps committee! My name is Anushka and I am a junior at UC Berkeley studying geophysics. I have been dabbling in Model UN since middle school, and joined UCBMUN my freshman year. In my free time I enjoy reading classical and philosophical texts, and my favorite authors are Toni Morrison and Soren Kierkegaard.
I am excited to see the direction in which you as delegates choose to take this committee, and even more interested to read the work that you all produce. What I appreciate most about good writing is the ability to deliver succinct arguments while maintaining artistic flow - and I look forward to reading about your opinions and thoughts throughout the course of the conference.
