This is Guinea-Bissau Crazy: United Nations Security Council, 2013
Advanced, Double Delegate
The year is 2013. The Gulf of Guinea is at the epicenter of a maritime crisis, plagued by rampant piracy threatening international trade and regional stability. Everyone is involved, from government officials and businesspeople to militias and the mafia! Petro-piracy, in particular, is emerging as a major issue, siphoning off vast quantities of oil and exacerbating the crisis. As regional leaders and key stakeholders, you must navigate these treacherous waters and devise a comprehensive strategy to combat this escalating issue. The stakes are high: can you stay afloat amidst the stormy seas of regional politics, balance the tidal wave of economic interests, and foster international cooperation to secure the waters? Your decisions will determine the future of maritime security in the Gulf of Guinea. Will you rise to the challenge and lead the region into an era of smooth sailing and prosperity, or will your efforts be sunk by this monumental task?
Note: This is a double-delegate committee with special procedure. The first day of debate will follow crisis format; the second day will follow General Assembly format.

It is an honor to have you for the weekend and to watch you take part in what we hope will be a super cool committee. My name is Dylan Nokleby and it is my pleasure to welcome you to BearMUN MMXXV. I am a current senior at UC Berkeley studying Mechanical Engineering. In the non-MUN world, I play for the Cal Club Soccer team and am in general a massive fan of any sport. I also love traveling, food, and music!
Within UCBMUN, I serve as one of the New Member Trainers. I actually didn’t start competing in MUN until I came to college but it has since become a core part of my Berkeley experience through all the memories I’ve made travelling, staffing, and hanging out with members of the club who have become some of my best friends (my fun fact is that Nick is actually my little in UCBMUN!).
The UNSC is a super cool committee that adds a lot of new components you may not be used to. It is for that reason that we consider it an advanced committee (if any of you were in this committee last year, maybe you'll recognize me!). In college MUN, UNSC is typically a combination of both crisis and GA style MUN. Considering our timeline, it is likely that we will only have time to focus on the crisis portion, but come prepared for some potential GAing on Day 2 and make sure to read through the BG so you know what’s coming! Any and all other questions you may have about procedure that the BG doesn't answer will be thoroughly explained during committee.
Nick and I are both here to be great staffers but just as much to have fun. It wouldn’t be worth giving up a weekend in my last year of college if we didn’t expect this to be a great time. We truly hope you can all play along with us, dive head first into old policy, and have a super fun weekend of creative chaos. Can’t wait to meet all of you and Go Bears! From,
Dylan Nokleby, Chair

I am a junior from Los Angeles, majoring in political science and film. I joined UCBMUN in the Spring semester of my freshman year to build upon my interests in public speaking and negotiations. Outside of UCBMUN, you can find me volunteering at local Berkeley food pantries, coaching youth basketball, or in Berkeley's Greek Life. For hobbies, I can be found hooping on a basketball court, rolling on a jiu-jitsu mat, or watching way too long, way too niche YouTube video essays.
I hope this UNSC will challenge you to think differently and collaborate in ways you did not think possible. I look forward to meeting all of you amazing delegates that make BearMUN what it is, on what will be a special weekend!
From,
Nicholas Carone, Crisis Director
